Warehouse vs Branch Stock
Understand when to use a central warehouse and when to stock branches directly.
SmartSell separates warehouses (central stock storage) from branches (points of sale). Choose the model that fits your operation.
When to use this
Read this article before opening a second branch or signing a bulk supplier contract.
Step-by-step
- Single-shop business. You do not need a warehouse. Stock goes straight into the branch.
- Multi-branch business. Create a warehouse, receive bulk shipments there, then transfer to branches as they sell through.
- Satellite model. Small outlets pull daily from a main branch or warehouse.
- Hybrid. Some fast movers stocked at branch, others at warehouse only.
Common issues
- Customer cannot buy from warehouse: warehouses are not POS locations. Transfer stock to a branch first.
- Duplicate stock entries: pick one home location per product to avoid confusion.
